Medical Device Plastic Components

Custom injection molded plastic components for medical device development, with practical support from DFM and mold tooling through inspection and production planning.

Medical device plastic components manufactured by injection molding

Designed for controlled, repeatable parts:

Medical device housings, covers, brackets, trays, and precision plastic components require clear requirements for fit, appearance, cleanliness, material selection, and inspection before tooling begins.

Medical plastic injection molding support

DFM review

Review wall thickness, draft, ribs, bosses, shutoffs, parting lines, gates, and ejection before mold design is finalized.

Tooling planning

Align cavity strategy, mold construction, sampling, revision control, and expected program volume with the part design.

Inspection focus

Identify critical interfaces, sealing surfaces, assembly features, and cosmetic zones so quality checks reflect actual function.

Materials, tolerances, and finish requirements

Material selection should reflect temperature exposure, chemical contact, stiffness, impact, flame behavior, color, surface finish, and any electrical or sealing requirements. Confirm the exact resin grade when possible.

For tolerances, mark functional dimensions and datums on the 2D drawing rather than applying unnecessarily tight tolerances everywhere. This helps the supplier balance part performance, mold design, process capability, and cost.

Quality and dimensional inspection

Dimensional inspection of a medical device plastic component

Provide the inspection method and approval expectations with the RFQ. Critical dimensions, visual standards, sample approval, traceability, and documentation should be agreed before production release.

What to include in your RFQ

  • 3D CAD model and 2D drawing with datums and critical tolerances
  • Material grade or required performance and environmental conditions
  • Cosmetic zones, color, texture, and acceptable molding marks
  • Prototype quantity, annual demand, lifetime volume, and target timing
  • Inspection reports, sample approval, traceability, or documentation requirements
  • NDA and CAD file handling requirements before confidential data is shared

FAQs

Can you review our medical plastic part before tooling?

Yes. Share the CAD model, drawing, material target, expected volume, and functional requirements for a DFM and tooling discussion.

Do you guarantee a specific medical certification?

Certification and compliance requirements must be confirmed for each project. Include the applicable standards and documentation requirements in your RFQ so they can be verified.

What tolerances should be specified?

Specify the tolerances that control fit, sealing, alignment, assembly, and other functional interfaces. A clear datum structure is more useful than applying tight tolerances to every feature.
